Andrew Zashin opens new law firm – Zashin Law

Brothers Stephen Zashin and Andrew Zashin have separated their law practices with Stephen Zashin continuing as managing partner of the firm Zashin & Rich and Andrew Zashin beginning a new chapter in his legal practice.

Andrew Zashin – previously managing partner of the firm Zashin & Rich, which was founded in 1981 by their father, Robert Zashin, and Lawrence Rich – has formed his own firm, Zashin Law in Mayfield Heights.

“I am proud to introduce Zashin Law, the next iteration of an almost 50 year-old family law firm that has grown from a local dynasty to a national and international legal powerhouse,” Andrew Zashin told the Cleveland Jewish News.

Andrew Zashin’s new firm was created in the wake of litigation with his brother, Stephen Zashin. The brothers were once partners in Zashin & Rich, and Stephen Zashin created a sizable labor law practice within the firm.

Stephen Zashin told the CJN, “Zashin & Rich is continuing in its current form and we are thriving.” The firm will continue to focus on representing employers with its labor law practice, which he said includes labor, employment, wage and hour, trade secrets and workers compensation matters.

Co-founder Lawrence Rich’s son, Jonathan Rich, has remained at Zashin & Rich, along with about 30 other lawyers, Stephen Zashin said. Zashin & Rich, which has offices in Cleveland and Columbus, also practices business, family and sports law.

“We’re lucky that we have so many talented lawyers who work here who represent employers every single day,” Stephen Zashin said. “And we expect that our growth trajectory will just continue.”

On Sept. 1, Stephen Zashin filed a lawsuit seeking a dissolution of Zashin & Rich. Andrew Zashin and Steve Zashin both said they cannot comment publicly on the proceedings.

“I have no comment on the separation of Zashin & Rich,” Andrew Zashin said.

Andrew Zashin, who writes a monthly legal column for the CJN, plans to continue the legacy he learned from his father.

“Robert Zashin began his family law practice after he ran for domestic relations judge in 1974,” Andrew Zashin said. “Thereafter, the name ‘Zashin’ has become synonymous with the practice of aggressive, result driven, highly customized, family law representation.

“The Zashin Law team continues this tradition today. Chambers and Partners, the world’s most important legal rating service based in London, has given Zashin Law’s family law team its highest rating for excellence.”

Lawyers call on the firm to co-counsel cases with them and ask it to serve as experts and for strategic counsel. It has also expanded beyond Ohio and routinely practices in other states.

“Zashin Law offers its clients the most accredited, creative and highly credentialed family law attorneys in the state and in the country,” Andrew Zashin said. “Most of our attorneys have received traditional accolades like Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers, and many others. Beyond that, however, we have distinguished ourselves through advanced certifications, fellowships and academic writings. Five of our lawyers are adjunct professors at the school of law at Case Western Reserve University. Our firm is the only family firm in the country to have represented clients two times before the Supreme Court of the United States.”

He said the new firm “is focused on clients’ experience.”

“Our new offices were chosen for client convenience as state-of-the-art software and legal systems,” Andrew Zashin said. “Decades of serving family law clients have given us the insight necessary to design a purposeful environment to deliver the best results under the unique circumstances of every case. In addition to traditional family law, Zashin Law will continue to pursue the unique area of international family law, and will remain a national and world leader in this legal discipline.”
